In 2021, the 9th Circuit Court asked the EPA to reconsider its determination that Roundup does not cause substantial harm to people or the environment. The 11th Circuit Court ruled in July of 2022 that Bayer/Monsanto had failed to adequately warn users about the potential risks from using Roundup.
As of today, Bayer has paid almost $11 Billion in settlements to cover claims from Roundup lawsuits. A portion of this has been set aside to pay for future cases.
While most cases are settled, a case in 2018 went to trial and awarded the plaintiff almost $300 million in damages. Other examples from trial cases include an award for $86.7 million, and a $20 million award in punitive damages alone.
Roundup is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world, and it has already been proven that Bayer/Monsanto did not adequately warn customers of the risks.
Who may be affected: Landscapers, farmers, nursery workers and regular homeowners may have used this pesticide for many years without any knowledge of the impact it could have on their health, or the connection between this product and their diagnosis.
In spite of settling over 100,000 lawsuits related to Roundup, Bayer has shown no intention to take the pesticide off the market, which may result in many more cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and harm.
